A woman died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a head-on collision earlier this month in northern Newport News.
Newport News police spokesman Lou Thurston said in a news release that Susan Rene Harris, 53, of Hampton, died at a hospital about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers and firefighter-medics responded to the crash in the seventeen thousand six hundred block of Warwick Boulevard shortly after nine p.m. on July 9, Thurston said. They found both drivers were were trapped inwards their vehicles.
Medics extricated both drivers. One driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital and was reported to be stable, Thurston said. The other was airlifted to a Norfolk hospital in critical condition, he said.
A witness told police a one thousand nine hundred ninety eight Ford Mustang was traveling north on Warwick Boulevard when it crossed into the southbound lane, striking a two thousand three Mitsubishi Galant going the other way.
Harris was the driver of the Mustang, Thurston said. The driver of the Galant, a 27-year-old Newport News, faces no charges.
