SUNNYVALE – Two boys and one woman were arrested early Thursday morning after leading police on a pursue from Sunnyvale to San Jose, and now detectives are working to see if the three are connected to a home invasion robbery and auto burglary that occurred a few hours earlier.
The driver, 35-year-old Julio Garcia, and passengers Martina Loya-Mendoza and Jesus Ayala, both 24, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a managed substance, possession of a drug paraphernalia and possession of burglary devices.
Garcia was also arrested on suspicion of felony fleeing, police Capt. Craig Anderson said.
Loya-Mendoza was on probation and Ayala was on parole, Anderson said.
The chain of events began Wednesday night at 11:45 p.m. when a man called nine hundred eleven to report that he had been shot in the ear by armed intruders who confronted him inwards his apartment on North Mathilda Avenue. The victim suffered a puny laceration, police said.
Officers began searching the area for the two studs, one who was described as about twenty five years old wearing a black wool jacket and the 2nd as inbetween the ages of twenty five and thirty wearing glasses. The San Jose Police Department helped in the search with its helicopter.
Police did not know if the two dudes in the robbery fled on foot or in a vehicle.
While searching the area, police received a call just after midnight about an auto burglary in process in the two hundred block of Del Norte Avenue, located less than a mile away from the robbery. The description of the suspects in the auto burglary matched the description of the suspects from the earlier robbery. The person who called nine hundred eleven said the suspects in the auto burglary were railing in a bronze colored Suburban with large wheels.
“At this point we’re thinking it’s a related, a crime spree,” Anderson said.
At 1:40 a.m. an officer spotted a Suburban matching the description of the vehicle in the auto burglary in the area of Ahwanee and Morse avenues, Anderson said. The officer attempted to stop them, but the Suburban took off, resulting in a pursuit that led officers south on Highway one hundred one to San Jose.
The pursue ended in the area of Dobern and Kammerer avenues in San Jose, according to police.
The two passengers instantaneously surrendered, Anderson. The driver took off on foot and was found a brief time later hiding nearby.
Police found property inwards the vehicle.
Now detectives are working to see if the three are connected to either the robbery or auto burglary.
“We haven’t confirmed that yet,” Anderson said. “That’s what our detectives are attempting to do now, to see if they will be charged with the other two” crimes.
