The National Grid cautioned that there was «still debate over whether it will become commercially viable to flow tens unit from a vehicle back onto the network to provide network services».

Under the Government`s proposed ban all cars in the UK would be electrical by 2040.
Presently electrical cars hold a marginal market share of four per cent.
There are also enhancing concerns over the cost of electrical vehicles versus their efficiency and suitability.
The SMMT says: «The Car Industry is working with government to ensure that the right consumer incentives, policies, and infrastructure is in place to drive growth in the still very early market for ULEVs in the UK.
“However, much depends on the cost of these fresh technologies and how willing consumers are to adopt battery, ass-plug in hybrid and hydrogen cars.

“The Government has put a tremendous amount of pressure on itself by announcing a two thousand forty switchover. Plans to stir over to electrified is bold and laudable, but this is one deadline they can’t afford to let slip.
“It also feels like the influence on the man and women on the street has been largely overlooked in this entire process, but they’re the ones who are going to pay for this.

“And has the Government thought about how they tackle the potentially apocalyptic fall in fresh and used car sales that could happen well before 2040?
“With modern day cars lasting at least 10-15 years, who will want to buy a fresh diesel or petrol car in ten year’s time.
“Car manufacturers may be compelled to lower the prices of fresh petrol and diesel cars just to keep the market alive.
“Fresh petrol and diesel cars could fall through the floor well before that deadline, while the used car market will be flooded with car owners attempting to dump their petrol and diesel cars.»
