Exposed: The most popular secondhand cars purchased in Ireland
May eighteen 2016 Two:30 AM
Today we can bring you a snapshot in time of the secondhand cars that are selling best – and the motors that are shifting quickest.
The insight into what was in request in April stems from an analysis of market overview activity and deals by MyVehicle.ie.
As well as displaying the quickest sellers and most popular models it exposes the top cars that are being sold privately.
One month’s details are by no means definitive in overall terms as trends can vary a fair bit.
But there is no doubt they are good indicators of what people are looking for and what they are buying.
As such they can give potential buyers a good clue-in to future values of marques and models and possibly influence the car they will buy.
All the ‘old reliables’ are there in abundance – from the Ford Concentrate to the Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Golf etc.
What is glaringly demonstrable is the massive proportion of diesels in the Top ten of each segment.
There are only a handful of petrols. We shouldn’t be astonished but it still comes as a little bit of a shock when you see diesel after diesel.
What do the figures tell us?
Again it is visible. The secondhand market is so often where people spend their own money as opposed to it being supplied or supported by a company. So they tend to concentrate on the more traditional makes and marques.
It is clear from the April analysis that people are going for the attempted and trusted motors. Some people might call them conservative but they are big sellers for a reason – they hold the prospect of doing a decent job for some years yet.
The other interesting aspect is the number of two thousand twelve cars that are topping the lists, suggesting more people are trading up after three/four years than may have heretofore been the case.
That had led to a taut used market with good cars getting premium prices.
Having said all that, the ‘quickest’ selling cars are by no means the fattest sellers; in most cases they don’t make it into the Top ten best sellers.
This suggests they are fairly scarce and some of them are fairly niche.
