Trio teenagers charged in Portsmouth carjacking incident
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A manager of the Goodwill in Portsmouth remains in critical condition after a violent carjacking.
The victim had just closed up the High Street store on Sunday night when police say a 14-year-old hopped in her car as she was standing outside the car talking to someone.
As the suspect was backing up the car, police say the victim attempted to open another one of the car doors, and was knocked to the ground in the process. Another 14-year-old and a 17-year-old also hopped in the car. The suspect then drove off.
The victim suffered a serious head injury.
Patrol officers later spotted the stolen vehicle in the one thousand nine hundred block of Deep Creek Boulevard. Two people were inwards the car. One was taken into custody. The other ran, but was later taken into custody. It shows up the two suspects led police to the third.
Rae Dais says she knows the victim.
“She arched over rearwards to help the people with what they needed help with. It is just awful what happened to her.”
Goodwill spokesperson Danielle Cronin said, “She is a loving associate by the staff and customers. She is a loyal employee who is loved dearly.”
The driver of the car is charged with carjacking and aggravated malicious wounding. The other two suspects are charged with grand larceny.
All three suspects were arraigned Friday and have another court date set for May Ten.
