Three arrested in carjacking of man in grocery store parking lot
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach police say three people – including two juveniles – have been arrested for allegedly carjacking a man at gunpoint Tuesday in the parking lot of a grocery store on Independence Boulevard.
Police say the robbery happened in front of Food Lion in the Pembroke Meadows Shopping Center. Customers say they typically feel safe around the store, which is not far from Town Center.

“It’s hard to think about that around here,” says one shopper. “Everyone is so friendly, and usually there’s no problems.”
However, safety seemed to be top of mind on Wednesday when ten On Your Side alerted shoppers to the violent incident.
“I’ll lock my car, that’s for sure, and I’ll pay attention to what’s around me,” says JoAnn McCullin, who lives less than a mile away and says she frequently walks in the area. “I’m one that’s kind of laid back and not looking, but I guess I need to.”
Police say the suspect assaulted the victim in a brief scuffle before getting away with a two thousand eight black Mercedes. The victim ran to another person in the parking lot who called police just before four p.m.
Officers say three larceny reports is the extent of crime reported at the Food Lion since the beginning of the year.
A K-9 officer witnessed three people matching the suspects’ description Monday night, according to police. The three were detained without incident.
Glenn Lamont Travers Jr. is facing charges of carjacking, use of a firearm, and two counts of robbery.
The juveniles are both charged with robbery, carjacking, use of a firearm and conspiracy.
“You just never know anymore. You just never know, says McCullin. “It’s a sad world that we live in, but I still believe there is more good than bad.”
